When preparing tax returns, you often need to use third-party services that can help you automate the process and provide detailed reports after connecting your cryptocurrency wallet. One of the most convenient ways to do this is to use an extended public key (xPub).
What is an xPub key?
The extended public key (xPub) is the master key of the account from which all public addresses are generated. It allows third-party services to obtain transaction information without needing access to your private key, keeping your wallet secure.
How do I get an xPub key in the Tangem app?
To get an xPub key, follow these steps:
1. Open the Tangem app and log in to your wallet.
2. Go to the token page by clicking on it on the main screen.
3. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner.
4. Select Generate XPUB.
For Android users: xPub key generation is currently only available for BTC.
For iOS users: xPub key generation is available for most blockchains, especially those that use the UTXO model, such as Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dash, Dogecoin, Kaspa, Litecoin and Ravencoin.
Export transaction history
There is currently no option to export transaction history in the Tangem app. However, some blockchains allow you to export your transaction history in a CSV file on their website. To go to the blockchain explorer, follow these steps:
1. Open the Tangem app and log in to your wallet.
2. Tap on the desired cryptocurrency on the main screen of the Tangem application
3. Find the View Transaction History (or Explorer) option and click on it.
4. This will take you to your wallet's public address in the browser. In the blockchain browser, you can find and export your transaction history for further use in tax reporting.
